Is it easy for a person of colour like myself to be accepted as an aupair in Europe?
Dear Gwen, I think it depend where you go to. In big cities it shouldn't be a problem at all. If you go to very rural areas, villages or so, I'm not sure.
Please ask for further information.
Yes, why not
Hi Gwen,
if by being "accepted" you mean finding a family - no, that's not easy.
Why? Because the visa process can take incredibly long for au pairs from most African countries and sometimes the visa is then denied in the end. Therefore not a lot of families take this risk if they also have alternative candidates from countries with a fast and easy visa process.
If you mean being accepted in the family and society - yes, that shouldn't be a problem. There's lots of persons of color in all bigger cities and even in rather small ones like ours (~ 48.000 inhabitants) you definitely won't be the only one.
Vionnah, our last au pair who came from Kenya, wrote a blog article about her experience as an African au pair in Germany - see https://connectaupair.world/blog/being-an-african-au-pair-in-germany.
